Fringe weekend, April 2011!
Southend Fringe returns with a new format for 2011. Instead of a three week festival, we're trying out splitting the entertainment into two or three long weekends spread over the year, so that there is chance for everyone to get involved and so we clash with less other local events. The first of these weekends is scheduled for April 14th - 21st, and we are welcoming event offers. If you put on gigs, plays, dance or comedy events, performances or exhibitions, creative lessons, art happenings or more crucially if you have never done anything like this before but would like to give it a go, get in touch! Registration costs just £10 and all proceeds go towards publicising the festival and organising free events that everyone can enjoy. The new registration forms will be available to download presently, in the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to contact southendfringeATgooglemailDOTcom

Southend Fringe Back on Phoenix FM
Tune into Brentwood & Billericay's community radio station Phoenix FM at 8pm on Thursday 13th May for a chat with Southend Fringe on Eddie Curry's Brentwood's Only Alternative Show and find out more about what's happening in this year's festival!
That was crazy. Let's do it again!
In 2009 Southend Fringe Festival brought you tap dancing, pub theatre, a brass band, three ukuleles, three double basses, a key-tar, fanzines, gay political punk, jazz, vegan baking, spoken word, guitar played from the top of a ladder, a craft show in a force 10 gale, a randomly generated electronic composition and a bald man playing kazoo in a dress. That's not to mention the quality out of town acts like Theoretical Girl, MJ Hibbett, Sicknurse and The Pan I Am, the debut live show from local sensations The Voronas, Southend's first ever Silent Disco, a workshop from prize winning carnival artists Art of The Village, lots of local musicians and a man violently miming to a mixtape. If you missed it, don't make the same mistake this year!
To get involved as an event organiser, performer, advertiser or to kindly offer us a prize for our grand raffle please check out all the information on our website. The deadline for registration and advertising is the end of March. The listings will be available online and in print in May, got some treats in store!
Southend Fringe is a registered company and operates on a not-for-profit basis. We aim to provide a platform for the unusual, the inexperienced and the downright avant garde and then open that platform up every single person we can find. If you have any ideas or suggestions please don't be shy to get in touch!
The deadline for registering your event with the Southend Fringe is March 31st 2010. Southend Festival Fringe is based on the same basic premise as the fringes in Edinburgh and Brighton. It is open access and covers all forms of arts and media. Anyone can put an event on as part of Southend Festival Fringe upon submission of the registration form and fee. For more information on how to register, visit the registration page.
Southend Fringe organised a Halloween-themed night of live music in October. Trash Monroe, Greenleaf56, Surfquake and The Fighting Cocks performed to a crowd decked out in fancy dress and a spooky time was had by all! Check out some video and photos from the event over at the dedicated page at Southendpunk.com here!
